How to Convert PDF to PNG Free Online
Choose PNG when you need a picture of a PDF page, not a replacement for the PDF itself. The useful question is whether a finite pixel image meets the receiving task: a slide illustration, a page preview or a layout reference. Keep the original when recipients need to search text, follow links or complete fields.
What PDFcraft renders into a PNG
PDFcraft renders whole pages with PDF.js; it does not extract original embedded images. A page containing a photograph, a caption and a border becomes one composed page image. You cannot use this output to recover the untouched photograph or an independently editable logo. Request the source asset when that is the deliverable you need.
Dimensions come from the rendered page
The current implementation requests a viewport at scale 2 and assigns its width and height to the canvas. Different page sizes or rotations can produce different image dimensions. This describes the code path, not a controlled browser pixel test or a promise of a particular print resolution.
Resolution remains finite
Once text and vector lines become pixels, enlarging the PNG does not restore their original geometry. Check small labels, thin rules and the intended display or print size before choosing the image as your final deliverable.
Choose PNG or JPG for the receiving task
PNG uses lossless encoding of the rendered pixels; JPG uses lossy encoding. That distinction does not make PDF-to-PNG a lossless conversion of the document. Both formats start from the same page-rendering workflow. PNG can be a useful candidate for page screenshots containing text or linework, while JPG may be worth comparing for photographic pages. Neither format is always smaller or better.
Compare the actual deliverables
If the destination accepts both formats, compare downloaded sizes and the details that matter at the intended viewing scale. A smaller file with unreadable labels is not a useful substitute. Conversely, a larger PNG is not automatically a better choice merely because its encoding is lossless.
Do not infer a PNG quality setting
The rendering code passes 0.92 to canvas export, but that argument is not a PNG quality control. PDFcraft does not offer a PNG quality slider or a target-byte-size setting. Choose the output format for the task rather than expecting that number to tune PNG size.
What a page image leaves behind
Rendering is not OCR. The words may remain visible, but the PNG does not retain selectable PDF text or add a searchable text layer. Links are no longer clickable PDF annotations, fields are no longer interactive forms, and vector shapes no longer remain vector objects. If a recipient needs those document features, send an appropriate PDF rather than a page image.
Check the background instead of assuming transparency
The current render call supplies no background override and uses PDF.js canvas default background behavior. PNG as a format can carry transparency, but this tool does not promise to preserve transparency from every PDF. Inspect the downloaded background against its intended destination; no universal background or visual-fidelity result is claimed here.
Multi-page output and download checks
Every page is rendered, with a separate PNG named page-N.png for its page number. Download All triggers individual downloads, not a ZIP archive. Browser permissions may affect multiple downloads, so compare the saved file count with the pages you expected. If you only need one image, you can download that result after conversion rather than assuming the tool processes only that page.
Keep outputs from different documents distinct
Two conversions can both produce page-1.png. Keep each document in its own output folder and verify the saved names before attaching images elsewhere. Open the actual downloaded files, not only their on-page previews.
Handle password prompts before conversion
This converter has no password-entry workflow. If the input requires a password, obtain an authorized unlocked copy using the known password before trying again. A failed conversion produces no evidence that the page content was successfully rendered.
